What’s this? A warmth against my back?! As I turn to confirm that some form of light is emanating from what appears to be a blue glow in the sky I realise that we are experiencing our first sunshine of 2009! Yes indeed it is true. I giddily run out from the office to proclaim my new discovery, but I can tell by the smiles on my colleagues and the student’s face’s that they too have experienced first hand this alien feeling!
Amazing what a spot of sunshine can do to a school? It was only last week that the students, grey faced and suffering from wet-rot trudged into school, not so much as a “howaya” amongst them. Today, faces topped up by Vitamin D, smiles cut across them, they flood into class bouncing like rabbits on a trampoline, oh the energy is good today!
We’re a happy bunch here in the office, laugh’s a plenty are had, pranks played, some work done, but today there is almost an unusual helpfulness from each other. “Sure no probs Johno, I’ll get that done for ya…” I find myself saying all too frequently, of course not really realising that this is tripling my workload, which in turn is being slowed by my constant gazing outside at a world filled with light. Still as I mash my way through it I have a grin on my face and sweat patches under my arms…
So is this sunshine distracting or helpful? Well if this school is based around providing and creating good energy I say lets move closer to the sun! When acting calls for boundless amounts of energy you can’t help being affected by the colour of the sky, the temperature of the room…whether there are free brownies being passed around (I’m paying homage here to Emily from 1st Year who brought in brownies this morning - possibly the real reason for the energy!)! This is why I’m creating a proposal for the Gaiety School of Acting - Florida Branch, I wonder whether the powers that be will buy that one? So I say come on sunshine, keep on bringing the energy!
Of course as I type this, the sun has gone…..
